I have a weekender bag, but that's too big. I could carry a backpack for this night away, but I was looking for something a little nicer. The Lo & Sons OMG is about the size I'm hoping for, but I'd rather not spend $220.
Hmm, my two go to overnight bags are the Lo and Sons OG and a Longchamp tote. I think both are going to be more than you want to spend. Maybe Le Sportsac? Those might be a bit less. A big canvas tote from LL Bean?
thank you! The Large Le Pliage is the right size and would definitely work ... the price is a bit more than I wanted to spend (I'm seeing it for $145) but it's not completely out of the question. I have a feeling I'd get a lot of use out of it.
Le Sportsac is a great idea too. I'll check out zappos.
I have a Vera Bradley large duffel that I received as a gift. It can fit a lot of stuff, the outside pocket is really handy, and I can throw it in the wash or fold it up small inside another bag. I know VB isn't everyone's cup of tea, but my pattern (baroque) isn't too loud. And they have some solid black options:
I also picked up a $25 weekend bag at Forever 21 last year that I've used sporadically (doesn't zip, just has one snap). Haven't been to the store in a while so I don't know if they have anything similar available right now.
I don't have any of these bags but I've pinned them (I have a whole Pinterest board for luggage that love but I'm not going to buy, lol):
mbcdefg - great recs, thank you! I actually really like that Vera Bradley weekender. Maybe I'll go to the mall at lunch & check it out in person. I could see that being pretty useful long term too.
I actually have a VB diaper bag that I could probably use ... or maybe sell, and get something else with the money.
I think a boat and tote from LL Bean would be great. There are zippered versions that run from small to humongous. (Note: look up photos of people carrying them before picking a size -- the large sizes are LARGE).
Longchamp bags can sometimes be gotten at a discount. I bought my sister the $145 one for her birthday and with a Bloomingdales code I was able to get it for $108 + tax.

Yeah, that price I could handle.
Anyone know if they ever stock them at Nordstrom rack?
I've never seen them at Nordstrom Rack, but regular Nordstrom will price match Bloomingdales friends and family. I've also ordered Longchamp from bagshop.com - they have 20% off coupons fairly regularly.
I just got a ChicoBag email (we used the shopping bags as the hotel/OOT/goodie bags for our wedding), and they have a $30 duffel bag that folds up into a small pouch: www.chicobag.com/product/duffel-repete-online-green
Check out Lug bags. Lots of fun colors, and you can get them on amazon or ebags. I have the puddle jumper weekender bag and am obsessed with it. Tons of pockets, very lightweight, and has that slider thing so you can put in on the handle of your rolling luggage.

I love my le sportsac bags - one tote and one duffle. Very lightweight and durable. I got them at TJ Maxx and I'm pretty sure they were under $30 each.
My DH has a Hartman rolling duffle bag that he loves. But I still swear by my LeSportSac weekender. Almost 8 years old and still going strong...it's been cross-country, cross-Atlantic, and many places in between and shows little sign of wearing out. Love it. It can be a bit of a pain to carry if it's full to the brim, but rarely is.

I got a VB weekender for Christmas and it was perfect for my stuff for the two day drive back from Christmas. It's bigger than I expected, but still easily carried full and I like the outside pocket.
